How to Determine if Your Property is in or Close to a Flood Zone

This course is a recording of a live meeting. You'll have access to the course for 30 days once you enroll in the course.

The 2020’s are on the path to setting records for the number of flooding events compared to previous decades so we're meeting to explore how you can determine the risk for a/your property plus what you can do about it.

Floods can cause loss of life, catastrophic property damage plus prolonged dislocation and disruption of services. Home owner’s insurance doesn’t cover flooding so our goal is to help you understand how to be prepared for flood events before they happen.

This recording covers the following:

  • How to find hazards for a property?
  • How to find a property on flood maps?
  • When are flood maps updated?
  • When you should consider flood insurance?
  • What’s covered under flood insurance?
  • How to get discounted rates through FEMA’s Community Rating System?
  • What's the waiting period for flood insurance?
  • What are the steps to recovery from a flood?

Hurricane Helene making landfall and then stalling over western North Carolina is a recent reminder that a flood can occur in an area that's not typically prone to flooding. Who would have thought a hurricane would have such an effect on an area so far inland?

This course will help you prepare your family, your property and your community for a flood event. We invite your questions and guidance through our Support page at any time.
