How to Choose the Best Energy Code Compliance Path for Your Project

Join us to learn how you can use the energy code to your advantage and avoid missed opportunities. We’ll walk you through the questions you need to select your project team members and facilitate discussion about what’s best for your project.

The energy code connects health, comfort and efficiency in our homes so it has a significant impact on our daily lives. All one- and two-family residential properties are governed by the energy code so we built this course to give homeowners enough information to work with designers and contractors.

Our goal for you in this course is to empower you to use the energy code to your advantage and avoid missed opportunities. We’ll walk you through the following questions to get you ready for a project of any size:

  1. What projects are covered by the scope of the residential provisions in the energy code?
  2. What are key terms in the energy code that will help you better understand the requirements of the code?
  3. How can homeowners easily locate the requirements for a project in the energy code?
  4. What are the differences between the prescriptive and performance paths?
  5. Has your jurisdiction adopted amendments to change the values of the prescriptive path in the energy code?
  6. What’s the difference in the performance paths – why and when would you use them?
  7. Are there testing or inspections required by the energy code?
  8. How to use Section 408 in the energy code to qualify team members and facilitate discussion about what’s best for your project?
  9. How does the energy code address existing buildings?
  10. Are there any appendices that could be used as a reference for your project?

As always, we’ll make our review in plain English. We invite your questions and comments as we go so we can address your concerns.
